Native hedgerows will be planted by volunteers in Chester-le-Street this Saturday.
The Chester-le-Street Action for a Sustainable Environment group will plant 120 metres of hedgerow along the A167, by the Hermitage roundabout, to provide habitation for wildlife and to make the area more attractive. The project is funded by the Biodiversity and Community Strategy Project and the County Durham Hedgerows Partnership.
SOCIAL NIGHT: Pittington Photography Club will hold an informal social evening on Monday at Hallgarth Manor Hotel from 7.30pm. The group usually holds its meetings in Pittington Village Hall on Mondays at 7.30pm. For further details, call 0191-372 1943.
FLOWER POWER: Cestrian Flower Club will be given a demonstration called Reflections by area by Sheila Gordon, of Settle, next Thursday, at 7.15pm, in the Park View Community Theatre, Chester-le-Street.
HISTORY TALK: Dr Benjamin Thompson, of Somerville College, Oxford, will give a talk to the Durham branch of the Historical Association called Henry VII: Tyrant or Stabiliser? on Tuesday, April 1, at 5.30pm, in the School of Education, Leazes Road, Durham. Admission is free.
IRISH NIGHT: Emmanuel Church, in Durham, will hold an Irish night on Saturday at 7pm in Framwellgate Moor Community Centre. The event will feature song and dance and a meal is included in the £2.50 admission. Tickets are available at the door and the Beyond Ourselves charity shop in Front Street, Framwellgate Moor.
WARD SURGERY: Easington district councillor Robin Todd will hold a surgery for people in the South Hetton ward on Saturday between 10am and noon in South Hetton Community Centre.
CHARITY DISPLAY: Photographer Philip Nixon will give an audio visual presentation called The Border Reivers tomorrow at 7.30pm in The Institute, Church Street, Durham. Admission costs £2.50 and proceeds will go to the St Oswalds Ranger Guide Unit.
EASTER CONCERT: Durham County Youth Choir and North Regional Orchestra will be holding an Easter concert in Elvet Methodist Church, Durham on Friday, April 4, at 7.30pm. The programme includes music by Bizet and Bach. Tickets at £3, or £1.50 concessions, are available at the door.
SPRING SALE: The Durham branch of the National Childbirth Trust is holding its spring nearly new sale on Saturday, from 10am to noon, at St Aidan's Church Hall, Framwellgate Moor, Durham. It will include top quality baby and toddler clothes, equipment and toys at bargain prices.
