ROWDY drinkers in Washington face being banned from pubs under a scheme organised by Northumbria Police.
Drinkers who cause disorder, commit anti-social behaviour or use illegal substances will be barred from pubs in Concorde, and possibly every pub in Washington.
The scheme set up by Washington Area Command will involve 11 pubs in Concorde linked by a radio system which will be monitored by the police. If it proves successful it is hoped to enlarge it to all the pubs in Washington.
Within minutes of any troublemakers arriving at a premises in the scheme, the radio will ensure that all other pubs are aware and they will be on the lookout for them.
Troublemakers will be excluded from the pubs and legally binding exclusion orders will be served on them.
The scheme, set up by the police as a result of a rise in drink associated disorder around Front Street, Concorde is aimed at improving public reassurance. Funding for the radios was obtained from pub chain JD Wetherspoon, which owns the Sir William De Wessyngton.
