A NUMBER of derelict green spaces across the region are to be revitalised with the help of a £90,000 grant.
The money, being allocated by Barclays Bank, will help residents throughout the North with projects to turn wasteland near their homes into community places, including play areas and parks.
The cash is being managed by charity Groundwork, working in partnership with the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers and The Wildlife Trusts.
Projects set to receive cash in the region include:
* Darlington's Brinkburn Nature Reserve, where the aim is to create a wildlife meadow and pond.
* Hall and Hunter Avenue, in Durham, where the project will provide a safe area for residents to enjoy.
* Ferryhill's Dean Bank Corner site, which will be transformed by attractive landscaping.
* Consett's Grove Lifestyle Garden, where a vegetable and herb garden will be created.
* Arthur Street Open Space, Crook, where the former gasworks site will be made into a safe place to play.
* Easterside Community Garden, Middlesbrough, which will be made into a community garden.
* Jefferson Street Gateway, North Ormesby, which will be made safe for residents.
* Church Road Community Park, Coatham, Redcar, which is to be turned into a play area and wildlife garden.
