NORTH-EAST rock band Lindisfarne are returning to the stage in the region, for a one-off acoustic concert of their biggest hits.
Three of the original members of the Geordie band are playing under the name Lindisfarne Acoustic at the Lamplight Arts Centre in Stanley, County Durham, later this month. It is the only North-East date on a national tour.
In 1972, Lindisfarne's original line-up - Alan Hull, Ray Jackson, Simon Cowe, Rod Clements and Ray Laidlaw - became the biggest-selling British act of the year with their second album, Fog on the Tyne.
At the height of their success, the band broke up under the pressure of constant touring and the demand for more hits. They reformed a few years later, but had limited success until 1990 when they recorded a rap version of the Alan Hull-penned Fog on the Tyne with footballer Paul Gascoigne.
The group decided to continue after the death of main songwriter Alan Hull in 1995.
Lindisfarne Acoustic are at the Lamplight on Wednesday, April 30, at 8pm. Contact the box office on (01207) 218899.
