A LITTLE boy has joined forces with his school friends to raise money for the hospital where he was treated for cancer.
Thomas Burrows, a pupil at Gurney Pease Primary School, in Darlington, was diagnosed with cancer of the kidney last December.
His kidney was removed just after Christmas and he missed a lot of school while he received chemotherapy treatment.
Thomas received a Northern Echo Positive Young Person award in the Against All Odds Under-12s category earlier this month for his determination and courage.
He returned to the classroom full-time last month and his teachers and friends decided they wanted to thank the Children's Cancer Ward at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, in Newcastle.
Yesterday, they held a fun day to raise money for the hospital with a bouncy castle, Easter egg tombola and a raffle.
Headteacher Sandra Battensby said: "We are very grateful to the Jump About Bouncy Castle Company who lent it free of charge.
"National Holidays and Morrison's also were very generous with their donations of prizes, as were our parents. We have managed to raise £235 for the worthy cause."
