The first half ended goalless but after the restart it was Steels who broke the deadlock and also settled the issue courtesy of Peter Stronach who scored a brace to give a 2-0 away victory. The two outstanding players were Stephen Bowles for the Croft and Stuart Howson who was literally everywhere in the game, attack, defence, and midfield for Aycliffe, probably the next season's architects for promotion.
In Division Two Barnard Castle Glaxo kept their promotion hopes alive by winning 2-0 at home against Hebburn. This was a game the Castle had to win and they dominated the opening stages final going 1-0 up after 20 minutes when Alan Gates headed home a cross from Alan Briggs but Hebburn defendant solidly, so it stayed 1-0 at the break.
