Junior round-up: Billingham Wolves will have a one-goal deficit when they go to Swindon Cougars for the second leg of the English Under-19 championship play-offs semi-final on April 25. This was after a 4-3 defeat from the first leg on Saturday at Forum Ice Arena.
Wolves got off to a bad start by conceding two goals in the opening five minutes. Swindon increased their lead with a third before the Teessiders recovered to cut the deficit to one by the end of the second period. Stephen Wallace, after completing his season with Newcastle KBS Vipers, is now available for Billingham. First goal for Liam Telfer at 33.22 and Wallace himself scored a second a minute later.
Battling Billingham drew level when Wallace grabbed his second of the match eight minutes into the final period. Swindon always dangerous and runners-up in the South Conference converted a powerplay, their fourth of the match to score at 54.19 to take a slender for the second leg.

Wallace and Thomas were joined by Adam Carr, Daniel Good, Dale Howey and James Hutchinson as North-East representation in the England Under-19 squad that played Scotland Under-19s at National Ice Centre, Nottingham on Sunday. All six played their part in a game that brought England an 8-4 win. Only a Stephen Wallace goal separted the teams in the first period which England dominated. The middle period came to life with seven goals between 24.54 and 31.31. Scotland twice drew for 2-2 at 25.53 after Wallace's second had given England a 2-1 lead.
Hutchinson restored the advantage when he fired the puck home through a crowd of players. Scotland's third goal came to complete the seven goal sequence for an England 5-3 advantage.
Two goals either side of the second period saw each team score once and another two including one from Carr when his side was short-handed wrapped up the scoring.
England Coach Mick Mishner is a former coach of both Sunderland Chiefs and Whitley Warriors.

Whitley Tomahawks finished their English Under-16 North A league season with a 9-2 deficit at the hands of Telford Rockets at home.

Billingham Bears travelled to meet Blackburn Firehawks in an Under-16 challenge and were 6-1 victors.
Bears scorers: Ricky Box and christopher Watts 2+0, Michael Farn 1+1, Christopher MCConnell 0+1.
Whitley Bay Squaws were knocked out of the Womens Cup going down 5-1 at home to Sheffield Shadows.
Squaws scorers: Sara Christie 1+9, Sarah Smith 0+1.
* Great Britain Women's Team finished bottom of the six team pool in division Two of the World Championships in Lecca, Italy, they drew just one of their matches and that came in a 4-4 tie with Denmark who finished runners-up.
Sunderland Scorpions had three players in the squad, Lynsey Emerson, former Billingham Wildcat now with Sheffield Shadows, Zoe Bayne was also in the squad.
Oldfield scored two of GB's 12 goals while Emmerson had two assists and Lewis and Bayne one assist apiece.
2003 Hockey UK Tournament
Under-10: Whitley Bay Mischiefs were in Kirkcaldy for the annual tournament and finished fourth of the five teams. A very young squad travelled north on Friday and lost 6-0 to Fife Eagles in the first match.
On Saturday Mischiefs drew 0-0 with Northern Ireland and lost 7-0 to Telford and 2-0 to Camperdown. Having finished fifth Whitley were expected to play Fife Young Eagles but the Irish squad were disqualified for playing over age players.
Therefore Mischiefs met Fife Eagles in the semis and lost 8-0. Fife beat Telford 4-3 in the final.
Seniors: Sunderland Chiefs competed in the senior event and they began with two defeats against Kirklady Kestrels, Michael Allinson put Chiefs ahead before Kirkclady won 2-1. Sheffield Scimtars won 7-2 with Allinson and Keith Barker netting for Chiefs.
Blackburn Hawks led 2-0 only for Chiefs to win 3-2, Allinson getting the winner with one second remaining.

Dundee-based Camperdown Stars were held to s 2-2 draw by Chiefs Allinson popping up again to snatch a point with both goals.
The two sides met again in the semis and Camperdown came away 3-1 winners. Jonathan Heslop scoring Chiefs goal at 10-38 to equalise. On a sad note Chiefs young defenceman John Wilson suffered a broken ankle in that game.
Sheffield beat Camperdown 2-1 in the final.

This weekend starting tonight is the Under-12 and 18 events at the 2003 Hockey UK Tournament at Kirkcaldy. Billingham Pumas and Sunderland Cherokees join Telford Terrahawks, Flintshire Flyers, Duncnee Tigers and Kirkcaldy Redskins in the Under-12 events. Billingham Wolves are in the Under-18 event.
