A REVOLUTIONARY skatepark using top-of-the-range equipment has been launched by Sedgefield Borough Council.
The council had been inundated with requests for skate boarding facilities and its solution was unveiled last weekend.
Working on a mobile skateboard system pioneered in Canada, the council will provide equipment which is suitable to tour the borough and serve all communities.
Partners were brought on board to assist with funding to hire the equipment for a day each week within their towns.
The skatepark equipment will be transported on a low loader and it takes only 45 minutes to unload and set up ready for action.
Already 200 youngsters have enrolled as members and all users will be monitored by staff.
Such has been the interest in the venture that Coca Cola and TFM radio have agreed a five-figure sponsorship deal for what will be known as the Airtime Skatepark.
It is also hoped the facility will prove popular with in-line skaters and BMX riders and it is intended to tour schools with it.
