YOUNGSTERS waiting for Derwentside's first skate parks can get in some practice on a set of mobile ramps.
The YMCA in Parliament Street, Consett, has bought two ramps, thanks to a £4,000 grant from Connexions County Durham. The kit has already proved a big hit with skaters, with most evening sessions fully booked.
Billy Robson, from Consett YMCA said: "Kids in Derwentside have been waiting for something like this for a long time and it is already very popular."
The equipment folds down after use, making it easy to store and transport.
Mr Robson said: "Because it is so mobile, we can take it out to other kids in Derwentside who maybe cannot get to Consett, so it will be of benefit to youngsters across the district."
Sue Baxter, of Connexions, said: "We chose to support the YMCA because this is a worthwhile project in an area of need.
"We hope young people will have a wonderful time with this equipment."
