TWO communities are to get greens spaces, thanks to a Government grant.
Residents in Arthur's Hill and Lemington, in Newcastle, have secured £7,000 from the Countryside Agency's Doorstep Greens programme to help them develop plans for community green spaces in their area. The proposed sites are Clarewood Green, in Stanhope Street, and Waverly Park, in Lemington.
HOLIDAY FUN: A range of activities will take place across Derwentside to keep youngsters occupied during the Easter break. Derwentside Leisure Services is offering a programme of sport, outdoor and indoor games, exercise sessions, arts and theatre, and cinema. The activities, aimed at five to 16-year-olds, will take place in Consett and Stanley, at venues including Belle Vue Leisure Centre, the Louisa Centre, the Empire Theatre, and the Lamplight Arts Centre. FLORAL RALLY: Members of Dunelm Flower Club will create a display representing the London to Brighton Veteran Car Rally at the Harrogate Spring Flower Show, which runs from April 24 to 27. They will be working with the Northumberland and Durham branch of the National Association of Flower Arranging Societies on the project. Dunelm Flower Club meets at Durham Sixth Form Centre, Providence Row, Durham, on the third Thursday of every month.
SCOUT PARADE: Derwent-side District Scouts holds its St George's Day parade and service on Wednesday, April 23, at 7pm, in St Patrick's Church, Victoria Road, Consett. The Scouts, in full uniform, are asked to meet at First Consett Scouts' headquarters, in Constance Street, at 6.30pm.
EASTER FUN: Easter fun at Crook Hall, Durham's medieval manor house, includes a visit by the Easter bunny, face-painting and Easter egg hunts from Friday to Monday. Admission is £4 for adults, £3.50 for concessions, and £11.50 for a family ticket.
VILLAGE ADVICE: Durham Citizens Advice Bureau sessions will take place today at Bowburn Community Centre, from 10am to noon; at Sherburn Hill Community Centre, from 12.15pm to 1.30pm; and at Esh Winning Community Centre, from 2pm to 4pm.
EASTER WALK: Local historian Donald Miller will lead a four-mile walk around Hawthorn and Kinley Hill on Friday, starting at 2pm from the church in Hawthorn. The walk costs £2, or £1 for concessions.
EASTER SERVICE: Perkinsville Methodist Church will hold its Easter Sunday service at 10am on Sunday, led by the Reverend Elliott Davidson.
IT SESSIONS: Langley Park and District Community Association is holding computer sessions at The Institute, Church Street, Langley Park. To join, call 0191-373 1876.
BAND NIGHT: The Poor Boys will perform at the Hearts of Oak pub, in Medway Close, Peterlee, on Friday, April 25, at 8pm. Admission is £1.50.
TEA DANCE: A tea dance will be held tomorrow at Sherburn Sports Centre, from 1.30pm to 3.30pm. Admission is £2.
