FOUR pupils have been rewarded after winning competitions being run in their schools to promote healthy eating.
They each received £25 and were entered into a draw to find an overall winner, with the main prize being a mountain bike donated by Coca Cola Enterprises.
Emma McIntyre from High Tunstall School, Hartlepool, won the bike ahead of Philip Noble from the town's Dyke House School, Ashley English from Brierton School and Anthony Leonard from English Martyrs, both also in Hartlepool.
The healthy eating competitions were organised by Hartlepool Borough Council's school catering service.
Doreen Wilkinson, catering manager, said: "The competitions ran over three weeks and involved points being given for different types of food.
"Obviously, pupils scored the greatest number of points for selecting the healthiest meals.
"Each time a pupil chose a meal the points awarded were recorded on their swipe cards and at the end of the competition the winners were those youngsters with the highest totals.
"It was encouraging to see the level of support in the four schools for these latest competitions and hopefully, pupils will continue to choose the healthy foods that they have now become used to."
