YOUNG artists are being urged to take part in a competition.
The Talpore Beefeater at Stockton is looking for a youngster to represent the restaurant in a national painting and colouring competition. Children are being asked to paint a picture depicting their idea of spring. The winner will receive a free meal for four at the restaurant, a goody bag and a further 12 free meals for any Beefeater restaurant. Send entries to The Talpore, White Water Way, Stockton, Cleveland, TS17 6QB, with the artist's name, address and age on the back. The closing date for entries is Friday, May 2.
NEW FENCE: The Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints at Billingham has applied to Stockton Borough Council for planning permission to build a 2-metre high boundary fence and gates.
CELEBRATING GARDENS: Newcomen Ward Community Forum, in Redcar, will be celebrating the refurbishment of its rose gardens on Thursday. A plaque will be unveiled in gardens by MP Vera Baird, at 11am. The gardens are situated on Lakes Avenue, just off West Dyke Road. Money to refurbish the gardens was raised through the West Redcar Single Regeneration Budget Community Chest.
CLIMBING EVENT: Anyone over the age of eight is invited to have a go at climbing at the Summerhill Boulder Park in Hartlepool tomorrow. Aimed at beginners and novices, a qualified instructor will teach the basic techniques of climbing. Anyone wishing to take part is asked to wear warm, loose fitting clothes and trainers. Booking is essential. The event takes place from 10am to noon. It is £3.60 for adults and £2.10 concessions. For details, call (01429) 284584.
