MODELS of ships of yesteryear will on display in an exhibition at a popular open air museum this weekend.
Forty model boats, representing shipbuilding history from the early-1900s to the 1940s, will be on view in the Roland Cookson Room at Beamish Museum, County Durham.
They will be displayed alongside displays telling the story of Wearside seamen and their families.
There will be examples of drifters and trawlers, with explanations of their different methods of fishing, alongside tugs, corvettes and destroyers.
Of special interest will be a 10ft model, still under construction, of First World War battleship HMS Lion.
The Ships of Yesteryear exhibition has been organised by the Wearside Model Boat club, whose members aim to preserve, on a small scale, the shipbuilding traditions of the River Wear.
The display will be open from 10am to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday.
