A VILLAGE is likely to receive thousands of pounds for improvements if a housing estate is built.
Developers want to build on Hadley's industrial site, in Middleton St George. Because it is a brownfield site it is anticipated to be granted planning permission by Darlington Borough Council.
Despite its concerns about over-development, the parish council decided not to object but has negotiated a series of gains from the developers if the go-ahead is given.
They include donations of £55,000 to the village to be invested in open spaces, £5,208 for a primary school planned for the village and £15,000 towards a mini-roundabout.
The developer has also agreed to upgrade a path from the estate to the Square and the school, and provide lighting along the route.
