Hartlepool United's new youth coach Paul Stephenson is on international duty with his new charges this week.
The midfielder is ending his playing career after recently being appointed assistant youth team coach at Victoria Park and is currently in charge of the club's under-15 side in America.
Pool are competing alongside the likes of Newcastle, Manchester United and Benfica in the Dallas Cup in Texas.
"These are the lads I'll be in charge of next year, so it's a great chance to get to know them,'' he admitted.
"In all my years as a player, I've never been to America on tour - these lads are there before they even start out.''
Stephenson's boys have played two games this week, beating Las Vegas-based United 87 2-1 with goals from David Manson and Paul Bone and drawing 0-0 with Solar SC.
Their final group game is against Chicago Magic today, in testing conditions - the temperature is approaching 90 degrees.
Director of Youth Ian Kerr added: "The trip will be a once in a lifetime experience for the boys and the coaches.
"It will give them a chance to spread the good name of Hartlepool United even further afield and we, as a club, will aim to establish links and contacts that will hopefully benefit our international connections in the future.''
l Pool's player of the year presentation is being held tonight at the town's Owton Manor Social Club.
