A GROUP of youngsters have won their campaign for a skate park.
The youngsters, from Whitby, have claimed victory after meetings with local councillors and education officers.
Following the meetings, it has been agreed that a skateboard centre will be built on the site of a go-kart track on the West Cliff, under a scheme devised by Scarborough Borough Council.
Director of technical services Derek Rowell said several other sites had been investigated for a park but had been rejected because of their proximity to houses.
The go-cart site is more than 80 metres from houses.
A new go-kart track is to be set up on land next to the boating lake on the West Cliff, in a scheme which will also involve alterations to the miniature railway station, one of Whitby's holiday attractions.
Mr Rowell said moving the go-kart operation would be an improvement to the area, providing a better circuit.
"This scheme will be another stage in the improvement of the area," he said.
