A WEEK-OLD foal had to rescued by firefighters yesterday after it fell over a river bank.
The foal was with other horses in a field on the Thornaby side of the River Tees behind Preston Hall Museum, near Stockton.
It is thought he had gone to explore but got a bit more than he bargained for and fell over the bank on to a ledge.
Fire crews from Thornaby and Yarm were called to rescue the foal, which was fortunately unhurt, at about 8.30am.
Sub-officer Pat McLoughlin, from Thornaby Fire Station, said: "The foal had fallen about 6ft on to a ledge. It was not hurt but was unable to get back up, which is where we helped."
Crews used a boat to reach the foal which was pushed back on to the river bank.
