LOCAL racers managed a decent slice of the points haul when round two of the British Superbike Championship took place at a warm and sunny Snetterton in Norfolk last weekend.
Following on from a superb top ten result in the opening round, Yarm racer Russ Hodgson continued his good form in the Virgin Mobile Yamaha R6 Cup in front of a 20,000-strong crowd.
After battling to ninth position on his four-stroke debut two weeks ago at Silverstone, the 21-year-old managed to slot the Mark Middleton-supported machine on row two of the grid during Saturday's qualifying before taking to the start in front of a live Sky Sports TV audience on Sunday.
Hodgson was battling with the leading bunch at lap record pace when he was almost high-sided from his machine at the infamous Bomb Hole at half distance, causing him to run wide and lose momentum.
Undeterred, the former 125cc racer bounced back into contention, but had to settle for seventh at the flag.
Middlesbrough teenager Paul Veazey was another rider to impress aboard the 125cc Vodka Kick Honda when he recorded his first points of the season with a superb seventh place finish in the 125cc GP class.
The 16-year-old set fourth fastest time during qualifying and got a great start to lead the field for the opening laps before dropping back to seventh at the end of the 18-lap race.
Darlington's Mark Burr produced another great performance on the 600cc Carbontek Yamaha to take 13th place in the British Supersport race.
The 22-year-old could only manage row five of the grid during timed qualifying and had to overcome a first-lap race stoppage to battle his way to more points at the chequered flag.
Busiest man of the weekend was Guisborough rider Dennis Hobbs, who had two races in the National Superstock championship.
The 20-year-old struggled during qualifying aboard his 1000cc Krystal Suzuki and was handicapped with a back row start in race one, but bounced back to score a determined 14th place.
Hobbs followed up with an 11th in the second race of the day, after a six-rider battle had disputed the lower leaderboard places, to end up 14th in the series after three rounds.
It wasn't such a happy day for Norton's Michael Hill, who ended up in 26th place aboard the Taboo Motorsport Honda in the 125cc GP race from his back row starting position.
The next round of the series takes place this weekend at Thruxton in Hampshire.
