YOUNGSTERS at a Trimdon infant school learned to play some unusual musical instruments and then performed in an evening show.
Pupils from Trimdon Grange Infant School met six dancers and drummers from the World Music South African Education Project during a workshop organised by the Gala Theatre Education Office, in Durham.
They had the opportunity to see African instruments, learned an African song, danced to traditional music and rehearsed a drumming sequence. The following day, pupils performed an evening show at The Gala Theatre in Durham, together with two other schools and artists from the Ancestral Legacies Show.
Headteacher Catherine Worton said: "It was a marvellous experience which extended pupils' understanding of rhythm, pattern and dynamics.
"It also deepened their knowledge of another culture and gave them the chance to go on a real theatre stage."
