A KEEN cyclist is embarking on a gruelling journey from Lands End to John O'Groats.
Stuart Hurst, from Chester-le-Street, aims to cycle the length of Britain to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
He will set off from the town this Thursday for Lands End in Cornwall, where he will begin his 16 day journey to John O'Groats in Scotland the next day.
Stuart has also organised a charity football match, which is due to take place in Pelton.
Originally he had hoped to raise £1,000 for the cancer charity, but is now on course to raise much more. The funds will help support the work of 70 Marie Curie nurses within the district.
Linda McDonough, from the charity's Chester-le-Street branch, said: "I'm just so thrilled to have somebody who's given up so much time to raise the funds for the charity and organise a football match. It's just a fantastic event."
