HUNDREDS of families are set to benefit from an £850,000 community centre in Washington.
The Rainbow Family Centre was built by Sure Start.
Rachel Putz, of Sure Start, said: "We hope the Rainbow Family Centre becomes the heart of the community and provides a welcoming and easily accessible environment for childcare providers and families with young children in the area."
It offers facilities including a soft play area, toy library, community cafe, and various groups including a speech and language group for parents and children and a Dad and Kids Saturday group.
Joyce Quin, MP for Gateshead East and Washington West, opened the building.
