WINNING trophies is a family affair for one group of martial arts enthusiasts.

In fact, the Silk family won eight of the 11 trophies brought back from the Tang Soo Do European championships by Teesside enthusiasts.

Andrew Silk, 16, won three trophies, Colin, his 41-year-old dad, won one, while cousins Stephanie and Bradley Morgan brought back two each.

Stephanie, 11, also returned home as European champion in weapons and form in her age category.

Friends Bethany Weedall, aged ten, and 13-year-old Terence Taylor were also highly placed in the contests against competitors from Spain, Germany, Sweden, Holland, Australia, the Seychelles and South Africa.

The Teesside club - Northern Tang Soo Do - meets twice a week in Middlesbrough and Redcar.

The club's instructor is Martin Silk.

His father said: "Considering the club has only been going officially, since January, I think everyone has done brilliantly - even those who did not pick up a trophy. They worked hard and did not let themselves down.''
