Businesses in Gateshead are to have extra help following the appointment of a town centre business counsellor.
Peter Wilson, of Low Fell Labour Action Team, said: "This will mean that a service supplying free counselling and advice can be provided. It will help existing small businesses deal with change and improve their competitiveness and survival prospects."
The scheme is the only Business Link provision in the town centre, which helps potential start-up clients. The service will be run from premises in Ellison Street and is staffed two days a week.
The post has been financed by the East Gateshead and Town Centre partnerships and has been endorsed by Gateshead Council's cabinet.
