TAXI drivers are backing a city's Capital of Culture bid.
All 270 members of Newcastle Hackney Drivers Association are packing Back the Buzz kits in their cabs, to support Tyneside's bid for the European Capital of Culture 2008.
Jimmy Blake, association chairman, said: "We are very proud of what Newcastle Gateshead can offer visitors and are always willing to offer advice about where people can stay, what they can do, and where the best restaurants and clubs are."
In the run-up to the final Capital of Culture announcement, the cabbies will encourage their fares to sign a petition to the judging panel.
Messages of support can also be left on 0191-245 8815, or by logging on to www.visitnewcastlegateshead.com.
