A POPULAR project reviving North-East music is going out on the road.

The two CDs of the Northumbria Anthology, featuring a wide range of performers, was issued last Christmas and proved a big hit with its mix of folk and music hall tunes.

Now many of the songs will be performed in a show featuring Graeme Danby, principal bass with the English National Opera, who will sing solo and in duet with special guests Valerie Reid and Sarah Murphy.

The singers will be accompanied by the Northumbria Anthology Ensemble and include a set by Johnny Handle and the High Level Ranters, who are well-known on the folk circuit.

Singer-songwriter Pete Scott will perform some new settings of songs by the Tyneside songwriter Joe Wilson.

Wilson's best-known song is Keep Your Feet Still Geordie Hinny but Pete Scott has taken more obscure material and written new tunes for the anthology.

Dates arranged so far are: Tuesday, May 20, Saville Exchange, North Shields; Wednesday, June 4, The Playhouse, Alnwick; Sunday, July 13, The Customs House, South Shields; Friday, July 18, Queen's Hall, Hexham.

All start at 7.30pm and tickets cost £10 from the venues.
