South Cleveland Garages Teesside League - Division One, Thornaby FC 3 v 2 Carlin How: Thornaby still have an outside chance of honours after two consecutive wins over Carlin How.
Thornaby got off to a great start when Darren Bullock's quick free kick found Neil Preston who fired home the opener, the match was very even for the following 30 minutes but in the 31st minute another free kick found Danny Jones, whose outstretched boot diverted the ball home for a 2-0 lead, five minutes before halftime Steve Starsmore reacted quickest to a bouncing ball in the Thornaby area to make it 2-1 at half-time with his 12th of the season. Ten minutes into the second half Thornaby regained their two goal advantage when Jones reacted quickest to a rebound to knock home his second of the match. Five minutes later Jason Draper set up a grandstand finish when he scored from an acute angle, but Thornaby withstood the visitors push for the equaliser.
Acklam SW 0 v 2 Nunthorpe Ath
Any hopes of Acklam Steelworks moving into a challenging position for the title were struck a blow when a number of their players who play week in week out failed to turn up, when they entertained Nunthorpe, who along with Grangetown, are vying for the championship. It was the visitors who took the lead into the half time break when Anthony Roberts scored and they increased their lead when Roberts with his second of the match scored.
Bedale were entertaining basement club New Marske who were desperate for points to try and get of the bottom of the league and out of a relegation spot. Adam Bramley gave Bedale the lead and the home side never looked back, 32 minutes later Paul Taite gave Bedale a 2-0 half-time lead. In the second half New Marske started to get on top but on the hour they were struck a bitter blow when Bedale broke and Bramley with his second of the match and 26th of the season wrapped up a 3-0 victory.
Richmond Town 0 v 2 Mackinlay Park
Richmond Town slipped to their second defeat of the season, they lost in midweek against local rivals Bedale 2-1. They entertained Mackinlay Park who are fighting to get out of the relegation zone. Redcar side Mackinlay Park took a deserved lead after half an hour, when first Charlie Eeles had his first shot blocked by the Richmond keeper, but he managed to knock home the loose ball while lying on the ground. The only goal of a tight first half, seven minutes into the second half saw the start of a remarkable and totally unwanted record for Mackinlay Park when they had Ian Summersgill sent off for foul and abusive language at an opponent, six minutes later Andrew Summersgill was sent off for a second caution to reduce the Redcar side to nine men, Mackinlay Park grabbed a second from a free kick which was headed over the keeper by Ray Teasdale in the 72nd minute, remarkably Mackinlay Park were then reduced to eight men in the 80th minute when Jason Lapping was sent off for violent conduct after stamping on a Richmond player.
Wolviston Res 2 v 2 Stokesley SC
Wolviston Reserves had to once again give up their home advantage, as their pitch was not available due to a backlog of fixtures for both of their teams, due to drainage problems they have experienced throughout the season. Stokesley staged the match and took advantage by taking the lead through Michael Langan in the 18th minute, Wolviston finally drew level with three minutes of the first half remaining when Greg Cattermole hooked a great volley over his shoulder to draw the teams level. With just a minute to the half time Wolviston had the chance to take the lead when a penalty was awarded for handball and Steve Casey made no mistake from the spot to give Wolviston a 2-1 half time lead. Five minutes into the second half Stokesley drew level when Jonathan Smith notched and Stokesley who were looking for all the points from the match in their relegation fight pressed forward but the remainder of the match petered out with both sides having to settle for a point.
Division Two
Darlington RA Res 4 v 2 Dormans FC
Darlington RA, with only one game to play, beat one of the early season favourites for honours in the newly formed second division. This was the last match of the season for Dormans, who despite being pushed back by the home side took the lead through Jonathan Thompson's first of the season. The Darlington side drew level through Ian Taylor in the 35th and then took a 2-1 half time lead through Danny Maddams in the 40th minute. Ten minutes into the second half Dormans drew level after pressing forward relentlessly through Anthony Garbutt. Fifteen minutes later after pressing forward the Darlington side took the lead through Maddams second of the match after he chipped the keeper in the 65th minute. Five minutes later the home side took a 4-2 lead through Gary Bowes to complete the scoring in the 70th minute.
Darlington SRM 3 v 0 Guisb Town Res
Darlington Simpson Rolling Mills entertained a ten man Guisborough Town Reserves, who were another side to be let down by a number of players, unfortunately they will now suffer a fine for playing with less than 11 players. Paul Geddes gave the SRM a first minute lead and they never looked to be in any trouble against the ten man visitors who despite their lack of numbers battled to reach half time only the one goal behind. Five minutes into the second half Paul Thorns with his 12th of the season gave the home side a 2-0 lead before an own goal in the 63rd minute wrapped up the points for the Darlington side.
Teesside Arriva 4 v 0 Teesside Ath
Hartlepool side Teesside Arriva set up a potential Second Division title decider for this Monday, when they travel to Billingham and play SMG Redstripes on 44 points, who need one point from this last game of the season to be crowned Champions, Arriva who are ten points behind, with three more games to play. Andrew (Bob) Weatherill gave Arriva the lead when he headed home a Chris Moody free kick, they doubled the lead seven minutes later when Dave Clarke scrambled home from close range, his seventh of the season. Arriva pressed forward intensely and in the 30th minute Weatherill hit a screaming 30-yard shot to give the Hartlepool side a 3-0 lead, Teesside Athletic then pressed forward but five minutes before halftime any hope of getting something out of the game looked doomed when Neil Hay was set up by man of the match Weatherill to score his sides forth of the match and his 18th of the season.
Whinney Banks 0 v 5 Darlington CB
Middlesbrough side Whinney Banks who at one stage during the season were one of the possible teams pressing for promotion. Were entertaining Darlington Cleveland Bridge who six league matches unbeaten run was ended last week by Teesside Link. But Bridge after this win, could finish in third place should they win their remaining two games, although the last game of the season is against Arriva. They took the lead through Nigel Clarke in the 30th minute, the only goal of a tight first half. The Bridge increased their lead in the 64th minute through Wayne Buckley, the same player then went on to complete a hat trick with further goals in the 74th and 81st minute. Clarke who before joining the Bridge had scored six time for the RA, took his tally to eight for the season with his second for the Bridge.
Macmillan Bowl semi-final
Grangetown BC 1 v 0 Bill. Wndrs
Grangetown Boys Club, who took over as League leaders after a mid-week win over BEADS FC, took time out to play Billingham Wanderers of the second division in this quarterfinal of the League Cup. Billingham matched the Boys Club for the opening ten minutes, but in the 12th minute the home side broke and Ian Williams fired home form 15 yards with the keeper of Billingham well beaten and that proved to be the winner.
R T Raine Trophy semi-final
Fishburn Park 2 v 1 Thornaby YC
These two side had already met twice in the League, with the Youth club winning both meeting by the odd goal in 10- and 2-1, it was always going to be a tight affair and it was the Whitby side who broke the deadlock in the 16th minute when Stuart Marsay scored. Ten minutes into the second half the Youth Club drew level through Robbie Shaw's seventh of the season, the next fifteen minutes were again very evenly contested but in the 70th minute Fishburn regained their lead when Marsay scored his second of the match and 15th of the season.
