A CITY council is helping the public with spring cleaning by placing skips at convenient places making it easier for households to dispose of waste.
The first Newcastle wards to benefit are Walkergate, Sandyford, Jesmond, Heaton and Byker, followed by West City and Benwell.
The scheme has been co-ordinated by the city council's ward stewards, who help residents to take care of their environment.
Spokeswoman Helen Grant said: "At about this time of year, many of us have a clear out of our houses, often deciding to get rid of some bulkier items we might have hoarded for years.
"The skips have been organised to help the public dispose of these articles without having to travel to council tips."
They are not be be used for clearing whole houses. The public are reminded that the council offers a free bulky refuse collection service through its Envirocall helpline on 0191-274 4000.
