IT could still be all change on the buses in Richmond, despite opposition to plans to relocate stops on the Market Place.
A revamp of the town's roads originally included moving the bus bays from the town centre to Queen's Road.
Traders with shops nearby objected, prompting North Yorkshire highways chiefs to think again and the alternatives were presented when North Yorkshire County Council's Richmondshire area committee met recently.
The council will now consult the public on what is essentially a compromise, including two new bus bays near the obelisk, a coach drop-off point and bus shelter near the Town Hall and two more bays on Queen's Road.
A suggestion that the car park on Victoria Road could be adapted for buses has been rejected as it would force more cars onto the road and cut the amount of revenue flowing into Richmondshire District Council's coffers.
Other improvements planned over the next three years include new signs, additional footpaths, more cycleways and crossings, speed humps and chicanes, residents' parking schemes and a 20mph limit for the Market Place.
