Newton Aycliffe 2 v 1 Hole in the W.

Both clubs struggled to field full sides and failed to trouble either goalkeeper until a shot from the edge of the box courtesy of Nigel Gamblin put Aycliffe ahead five minutes before the interval. The same player doubled his side's advantage five minutes after the restart and Aycliffe were content to sit back and defend their lead. However, with ten minutes remaining Andrew Mackintosh bundled home a Roddie Dodsworth cross to set up an interesting finish, but Aycliffe held on to take the points.

League Challenge Cup, semi-final

Post Boy 0 v 6 Albion

A surprisingly one-sided semi-final in which Post Boy never got going and were soundly beaten by an upbeat Albion whose scorers were John Banks (2), Gary Mitchell (2), Rodney Brown and one from the outstanding Adrian Weston.

Invitation Trophy, first round

Killinghall Arms 3 v 0 DGSOB

Killie struggled to find their true form and although Old Boys posed little threat it took a wonder goal from Gary Alford to settle the nerves and give Killie an interval lead. Second half goals from Danny Hannifin and Andy Roberts secured Killie a semi-final spot where they will meet DSRM SC Reserves.

The Grey Horse v East End WMC and Shuttle and Loom v DSRM SC Reserves league matches were both postponed in the absence of a referee.

Darlington Church and Friendly League

The League Cup Final to be played at Darlington FC's Feethams ground on Tuesday, May 6 will be between Darlington RA Youth and Shildon Elm Road WMC.

It took a goal by sub Carl Moss in extra time for Youth to defeat Stillington The Royal 2-1 in a good evenly contested cup tie, the first two goals came in the first half, Craig Adamson for RA Youth and Paul Cleary for The Royal. Youth had to put in some good defending in the last ten minutes of normal time as Royal with Charlie Sedgewick who had a good game pushing for a winner.

In the other semi-final at Shildon, Darlington Travellers Rest had a much better start than their hosts Elm Road WMC and went in front after 20 minutes through Dave Lewis but the lead didn't last as Elm hit back with two in as many minutes. Play was even until five minutes from half-time when the visitors were caught again by another double, Elm Road struck again midway through the second and again with ten minutes to go to record a 6-1 win. Paul Scott had an excellent second half in goal for Travellers with some good saves. Richard Nash (2), Daniel Plews, Ian Wickens, Carl Dawson and Darryl Meadows were Elm Road scorers.

In the league Darlington The Mowden put a dent in Aycliffe Saints title hopes with a 3-1 win at Aycliffe, Callum Reilly and James Middleton giving them a 2-1 half-time lead, Jonathan Craig replying for Saints, the points were sealed for Mowden when Middleton converted a penalty.

Darlington Skerne Park put up a dour struggle before going down 4-1 to Hurworth Otter & Fish, Neil Bell, Chris Liddle, Graham Wedge and Wayne King being their scorers.

County CIU Cup

Semi-final draw: Newton Aycliffe or Glendale v Stockton Blytholme or Tindale Crescent; Chilton & Windlestone v Fishburn or Quarrington Hill.

Results to be into the Branch Office by April 30. The final will be played on Sunday, May 18.

T M Disco Crook and District League

West Auckland Queens Head dropped a midweek point but returned to winning ways with a 7-0 victory at Wearhead United. Matthew Moffatt (2), Anthony Bailes (2), Andrew Bowes (2) and Carl Jones were on target for West.

Willington WMC go top after a victory at Howden Australian. Ian Britton put Willington ahead but the home side came back through Craig Robson. Chris Pickes and Anthony Stewart gave Willington a 3-1.

Crook Wanderers kicked off with nine men at Byers Green St Peters and were down to just seven when two went off injured. Despite their disadvantage goals from Chris Pounder (2) and Nelson gave Wanderers a 3-2 win. Paul Brownson and Dugdale scored for Byers Green. John Paul Collinson notched a hat trick for Bishop Rugby Club who ended Tow Law Cattle Mart's good run. Rugby Club won 10-0 with further goals coming from Paul Barker (2), John Lowe, Darren Scapper, David Evans, Paul Cooke and an own goal.
