NO STONE is being left unturned in a town's Britain in Bloom bid.
This year, Saltburn is a national finalist in the coastal resort category and hundreds of volunteers are helping with the effort.
The latest improvement is the creation of a new rockery on the site of a semi-derelict lawn area at the top of the town's famous cliff lift.
Saltburn in Bloom committee member Jackie Taylor explained that the Aged Persons Club had sponsored the effort. Other plans for the town include painting the bandstand, creating a rose garden and improving a play park.
Mrs Taylor said that dozens of volunteers helped make sure the town was at its best during the spring judging day last Thursday.
She said: "It was a superb effort yet again. So many members of the public helped out that it was quite overwhelming and the town looked excellent."
Saltburn, which picked up the silver gilt award for a coastal resort with a population of under 20,000 last year, is one of 61 national finalists. Others include Newcastle in the large city category and Harrogate and Durham for the best large town. The next judging days will be in August.
A table top sale has been organised for Saturday, at Saltburn Community Centre between 10am and 4pm. Money raised will go the Saltburn in Bloom Committee.
