AN inspector's decision to block a bid for new facilities for a playgroup has been welcomed by the Open Spaces Society, which opposed it.
Glaisdale Playgroup wanted North Yorkshire National Park authority's permission to construct a classroom, car park and fences on common land, prompting a public inquiry.
An inspector ruled against the project on the grounds that it would not blend with the surrounding landscape.
Society spokeswoman Nicola Hodgson said the group was delighted at the decision. She said: "While we recognise the need for educational facilities in rural communities, the society is firmly of the view that these must not be placed on common land.''
