A TEENAGER was attacked and beaten by two muggers who escaped with just 60p and a cigarette lighter.
The 18-year-old victim was left with his front teeth broken, a deep cut above his eye and injuries to his arm and face after the ordeal, which took place at 12.05am on Sunday. He had been walking along a path between Heworth Green and Layerthorpe, in York, when he was attacked.
He was punched in the face and thrown to the ground. The muggers searched his jacket and on finding a set of house keys, poked him in the eye with one, causing a gash.
They stole 60p and a black Zippo lighter before leaving in the direction of Heworth Green.
One of the attackers was white, about 19, about 5ft 5in, with short, light-coloured hair, cropped at the sides. He wore a plain top, dark trousers and trainers.
The other was in his mid-20s, about 5ft 10in and almost bald, with dark stubble at the back of his head and neck. He wore light-coloured clothing, possibly tracksuit bottoms.
Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Sergeant Nigel Costello on (01904) 631321.
