THOUSANDS of voters in Darlington have already taken part in the town's first all-postal elections.
Ballot papers were posted to 76,000 residents in the borough on Monday, April 14, and so far 24,000 people have returned their votes.
Darlington was chosen to take part in the Government pilot of postal voting, which could be extended throughout the country if it is a success.
Residents have been asked to post their votes to the town hall instead of visiting a traditional polling station, and drop-off points have also been made available throughout the town.
A freephone helpline is also available on 0800 5877325 for anyone concerned about the new voting system.
All votes must be returned to the town hall by 9pm on May 1 to be included in the count.
Returned votes received before the closing date are being kept securely under lock and key at the town hall.
