PLANS to change the use of a house in Eaglescliffe into a DIY shop look likely to be refused when councillors meet tomorrow.
Members of Stockton Borough Council's planning committee will meet to discuss the plans for the property, which is located on the corner of Beechwood Road and Witham Avenue. The plans do not include parking.
Residents have objected to the proposal because of fears about highway safety and the lack of on-street parking.
A report to the meeting said: "The use of the property as a retail unit would be unsatisfactory.
"Off-street parking for service delivery vehicles and customer vehicles is not available.
"Such parking and activity would take place on the public highway and at a point where forward visibility is very restricted.
"The additional parking would be likely to have a detrimental effect on highway safety, and on the free flow of traffic.
"While it is not considered a proposed change of use to retail would have a significant impact upon the overall character of the area as a residential locality, the highway safety implications would affect the amenities which local residents could reasonably expect to enjoy."
