SHEEP producers will have an opportunity to learn about export opportunities at a breakfast seminar at North Sheep 03.
The National Sheep Association's Northern region biennial event is to be staged at Walburn Hall Farm, Downholme, near Richmond, on June 4.
Henry Lewis, Meat and Livestock Commission export manager, and Hugh Crooks, Trade Partners UK agricultural export promoter, will discuss the potential worldwide trading opportunities for the UK sheep industry.
Mr Crooks will also discuss Government export services available to existing exporters and newcomers to the sector.
"We're delighted to have the opportunity to meet all those involved in the UK sheep industry who wish to extend their horizons and business opportunities by exploring export markets," said Mr Lewis.
"The GB sheep industry is the largest in Europe; it has a dynamic breeding programme and a vast selection of breeds to offer. When it comes to overseas trading, however, it has stepped back and allowed the competition to take over. The time has come to redress the balance.
"We will offer potential importers a comprehensive package deal, from breeding animals and technical equipment to management and training consultancy."
Julie Sedgewick, NSA Northern region secretary, said: "We are extremely proud of our sheep industry, its efficiency and its ability to produce world class lamb.
"The opportunity to offer some of our skills and resources overseas is an extremely positive move forward, accompanied by a welcome financial boost."
