A DRINK-DRIVER who led police on a dangerous chase was yesterday jailed for six months.
Michael Danby, a mechanic, of Beechwood Terrace, Houghton-le-Spring, was spotted by two police officers speeding through Hetton-le-Hole in his Ford Fiesta at 2.30am on January 3.
The officers stopped Danby, but as one approached his car, he drove off and led them on a chase, mounting the kerb on several occasions, and narrowly missing parked cars.
The chase came to an end when Danby hit a phone pole.
When tested, he was found to be almost three times over the drink-drive limit.
At Newcastle Crown Court, he admitted one charge of drink-driving, one of dangerous driving, and charges of failing to stop or report an accident.
He was also banned from driving for two years.
