SPECSAVERS Opticians in Darlington has raised almost £200 for the Darlington and District branch of the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society.
Staff at the store in High Row raised the money by selling cakes and buns to colleagues, and also asked customers to make a small donation when they took their spectacles in for minor repairs.
Having raised more than £84, generous directors Gery Learmont and Nigel Best doubled the amount, boosting it to £169.
Added to that was an extra £12, which was raised from selling Multiple Sclerosis badges on reception.
The sales took the combined total to £180.80.
Optical advisor Amanda Lawrence, who organised the fundraising events, was overjoyed at the amount that had been raised.
Ms Lawrence said: 'I had expected to raise about £50, so I'm absolutely astounded that we've almost quadrupled that.
'We wanted to raise money for the local branch of the MS society, which provides support to sufferers and their families in the area.
"It's a charity close to my own heart as my daughter Vicki suffers from MS."
