WASTE collections in Hartlepool are to take place on a Bank holiday for the first-time next month.
The move, which follows talks between Hartlepool Borough Council and its main contractors, Cheshire Recycling, affects the fortnightly blue box service and kerbside collections of waste paper and textiles.
In the past, such collections have never taken place on bank holidays, but will do so on Monday, May 5, for homes that normally have their recyclable waste collected on Mondays.
Denise Ogden, of the council, said: "At present, this arrangement only involves the May Day bank holiday and it reflects concern about the build-up of recyclable waste since before Easter.
"Given that May Day bank holiday comes two weeks after Easter Monday, it means that some residents would be left without a collection for six weeks without this special arrangement."
