A DRIVER who left the scene of an accident in which he lost control of his car while driving on ice appeared in court yesterday.
Jason Chamberlain's Ford Escort collided with the back of a parked Vauxhall Cavalier on Reeth Road, in Richmond, in January, the force of the impact pushing the other car 30ft along the road.
The court heard that Chamberlain, 22, drove a short distance before abandoning his car in Whitcliffe Place.
A week later, he went to Richmond police station where he admitted three offences. Yesterday, magistrates fined him £75 for failing to stop after an accident, £75 for failing to report an accident and £150 for driving without insurance.
He was ordered to pay £55 costs and his licence was endorsed with seven penalty points.
Chamberlain, of Whitcliffe Grange, Richmond, told the court he had panicked after the collision as he knew he had no insurance.
He said: "But, like one of the policemen said, I know I am in more bother now because I didn't stop."
