GRANIA Furness' Pharlindo (Hurworth) returned to the winners enclosure when taking the ladies open at the Cleveland point-to-point held at Stainton Vale last Saturday.

The 12-year-old made every yard of the running under Annabelle Armitage to win by two lengths from the Tina Jackson-trained and ridden Wynyard Dancer (A Jackson/Cleveland). Colonel Blazer (S Fenwick/Sinnington), trained by Michael Brown, was 20 lengths back in third.

The best race of the day was a very competitive restricted, won by Robin Tate's Phyllis (Hurworth), courtesy of an excellent ride from her trainer Fiona Needham.

The Carole Dennis-trained Albarden (R Dennis/Hurworth), ridden by Nigel Tutty, was four lengths clear at the last, but started to weaken on the flat. Phyllis, who was fourth two from home, swept to the front close home and was five lengths clear at the line. Albarden finished second, seven lengths in front of Howard Johnson's Gaucho (Cleveland), ridden by trainer Tina Jackson.

The Christine Barr-trained Royal Reprimand (R Barr) landed a huge gamble from 12-1 to 2-1 in the members. The eight-year-old raced prominently under Clive Mulhall and cruised to a four-length win from the Nicky Smith-trained Broleagh Pilot, ridden by owner P Collins.

Grant Tuer's stable continued its winning ways when Golden Chimes (Hurworth), ridden by his trainer, took a sub-standard men's open by two lengths from Brighter Shade (Bluebell Partnership/Bilsdale).

The Sarah Duell-trained Mr McDuck (South Durham) gained a deserved first win in the first division of the maiden. The 11-year-old won by ten lengths under Lee Bates from Sir Robert Ogden's Ellis Park (Hurworth), who made late headway under Noel Wilson to snatch second by a neck from In The Van (R Morley/Derwent).

In the second division of the maiden, the Michael Brown-trained Bohemian Spirit (P Armitage/Sinnington) won by six lengths from Sarah Horner-Harker's Red September (Hurworth).

l A Guy Brewer hat-trick was the highlight of the Staintondale point-to-point held at Charm Park on Easter Monday.

His first came in the members when the Mary Sowersby-trained Minster Echo (J Featherstone) won by three lengths from the Andrew Pennock-owned and ridden Scalby Croft.

The second leg came when Ptah (Mrs J Broadhead/Middleton) sprung a 33-1 surprise to win an exciting men's open by a head from the Sarah Dent-trained Brighter Shade (Bluebell Partnership/Bilsdale).

Brewer's hat-trick was completed in the open maiden when Gill Walford-trained horses took the first two places. Brewer was on the less fancied Farlington (Middleton), who won by a length from the Mark Walford-ridden Golden Rivet (A Preston/Middleton).

The Christopher Barker-trained Shankly (Sinnington), ridden by Mark Walford, won for the third successive time in the confined hunts race.

Phenomenal Effect (Ryedale PTP Club/Essex) took the second division of the unplaced maiden for Annabelle Armitage's stable, while Lady Susan Watson's Just Flutter (Middleton) easily won the first division. Emperor's Son (Middleton), trained and ridden by Serena Brotherton, won the restricted race.

l The York & Ainsty point-to-point takes place on Sunday at Easingwold, first race 1.30.
