A common carp of 7.12.0 taken on the cast of the day gave Newman Scott's Peter Nixon victory during the second round of the Shotton and District Spring Series.
Fishing off peg 32 on Shotton Pond, Peter had two carp in the net on spicy meat before landing the all-important specimen on feeder and cat meat to finish with a total weight of 17.1.0.
At the next peg, Derek Fox of Eden Meadows had more fish but of a smaller stamp and slipped into runner up spot netting 4 carp a tench and 2.0.0 of small rudd for his 15.2.0.
At Carlton Miniott the 121 big turnout provided Map Elton's Dean Smith with another bumper payday during Woodlands regular slot on Saturday.
Divided between all the match lakes except Kestrel, Dean demonstrated his skill yet again hammering home an all carp bag of 65.0.0 on a day when backing weights were excellent.
Fishing Mallard 2, a few pegs away from the scene of his record breaking catch of 127.6.0 just 7 days before, Dean included a tremendous common of 12.0.0 going across on the long pole and pellet. Best of the rest came off Dragonfly Lake. Island cover proved crucial as commons to 8.0.0 fell to the long pole pellet combination for Leeds Loonies Dave Waffen who weighed in 58.10.0 followed by Andy Dargue of Team Shimano Quaker 57.0.0 and Paul Newman Quaker Tackle 56.14.0 Wednesday: Kestrel Partridge & Skylark Lakes (80 rods) 1 M Coyne (Map Elton) 67.13.0; 2 D Smith (Map Elton) 55.7.0; 3 P Eastwood (Calder Anglers) 46.10.0.
At Raker Lakes Wheldrake Paul Stead of JT Rodgers emerged the winner during Sunday's Match staged on Horseshoe Lake.
Opting for a far bank approach Paul located plenty of carp off peg 18. Fishing pole and meat and loose feeding caster resulted in a good bag of small carp totalling 48.3.0.
Meanwhile Stuart Holmes of Tight Lines sandwiched between two JT Rodgers men did just the opposite.
Working close in off peg 4, Stuart tempted all his carp from under a tree on pole and corn enough for runner up spot with 32.10.0 from Jim Pearson 28.2.0.
Easter Festival winner John McGarrell continued his devastating form finishing top dog during the Oaks Sessay Open.
The Map Elton regular on Maple Lake's peg 8 left arch-rival and teamate Dean Smith comfortably behind putting 46.4.0 onto the scales. Presenting the pole at 13 metres to the far bank carp up to 2.8.0 responded to the pellet throughout.
It was more of the same on peg 54 as Dean caught 37.12.0 hotly pursued by Cleveland Angling Centre's Dave Harris 37.8.0.
