CHILDREN from across the region have helped set a world record for a simultaneous sing-song.
Youngsters in County Durham joined forces with children across the UK to claim a place in the Guinness Book of Records.
The record, ratified this week, was set by 83,121 children on December 9, led by child singing star Declan Galbraith. The previous record stood at 15,500.
The event raised £42,000 for the Sargent Cancer Care for Children fund.
North-East schools which took part in the singing included: Firthmoor Primary and Hummersknott Comprehensive, Darlington; St Francis CE Junior, Newton Aycliffe; Barley Mow Primary and Park View Community School, Chester-le-Street; Oxclose Primary, Spennymoor; Greenland Junior and Hare Law Special School, Stanley; Leadgate Junior, Consett; and Wolsingham School, County Durham.
A spokesman for organiser Young Voices said: "We are thrilled that we broke the record by such a margin, but even more pleased that that the exercise raised money for seriously ill children."
