Billingham SC: Eleven members from Billingham Amateur Swimming Club competed at the Spa Town Distance Meet at Harrogate at the weekend. All fared well against tough opposition with a total of 17 personal bests out of 25 swims. Ten year old Glen Martin was outstanding with three golds and two silvers to his credit. He picked up gold in the 400m free, 200m I.M. and 200m free and was in silver position for his 200m breast and 200m back gaining three pb's. Another two 10 year olds with excellent swims, both competing in the 200m free and gaining pb's were Harriet Goodman and Stephanie Blackburn. It was Stephanie's first open gala.
Twelve year olds Philippa Shepherd and Jessica Trewin competing in the 200m free both swam brilliantly and gained pb's.
Two 13 year olds swimming superbly and producing pb's in their races were Joanne Longster in the 200m back and 200m free and Lisa Sheehan in the 200m breast and 200m back.
Two others with great swims were 14 year old Phillip Grounds in the 200m free and with pb's in the 400m free and 200m I.M and Emma Shepherd with a p.b. in the 200m free.
Fifteen year old Jane Usher with an excellent swim in the 400m free picked up a 5th place medal.
Northallerton ASC
Northallerton swimmer Emily Brayshaw went on the medal trail at the Northumberland and Durham Team Championships on Saturday the 26th April joining fellow Moors swimmers Amy Roberts9Eleanor Berryman and Natalie Routledge, in the girls nine and ten girls medley and freestyle team events. The Girls held off strong competition from all over the North East to strike silver in the medley event with Emily swimming a courageous front crawl anchor leg to hold on to the medal position.

On the same weekend Northallerton swimmers travelled to Harrogate to compete in the Spa long distance meet where Douglas Roberts shrugged off all nerves to compete in his first ever 1500m freestyle Finishing in a club best time. Club captain Sarah Hope, Francesca Martin, and Zara Dee Hannay were also in action at the meet with Sarah setting two club records in 200m backstroke and 200m Individual Medley and Zara-Dee demolishing the old 200m girls 11 years breaststroke record by over 14 seconds.
