Two dogs were rescued from an outhouse that caught fire in Bishop Auckland yesterday.
Firemen gave the dogs oxygen after removing them from the building attached to a house in Abbey Road. The outhouse was badly damaged.
FAIR QUEEN: Sedgefield has chosen its Flower Queen for this year's Medieval Fair. Jenny Dovaston, nine, will lead the parade through the village on May 17, with attendants Amy Miller, Kirsty Smith, Paige Challons and Courtney Brown.
GARDEN SOCIETY: Members of Sedgefield Garden Society meet tonight, at 7.30pm, in Ceddesfeld Hall when the speaker will be David Goodchild.
CUPBOARD FIRE: Firefighters were called to a house in Startforth Park, Startforth, near Barnard Castle, yesterday afternoon to put out a fire in an airing cupboard.
EXTENSION WANTED: An application to demolish outbuildings at 133 Craig Street, Darlington, and replace them with a two-storey extension has been submitted to the borough council.
FENCE PLAN: Industrious Asset Management has applied to Darlington Borough Council to erect a two-metre security fence and gates at industrial units numbers one to 14, off Forge Way, on the Cleveland Trading estate, Cleveland Street.
LUNCH CLUB: St John's Church, Neasham Road, Darlington, holds lunch clubs at noon on the first and third Friday, and second Thursday of the month.
CHURCH CELEBRATES: Wolsingham Baptist Church will celebrate its anniversary at the weekend, starting with a Saturday night concert by the Dunston Family Church Choir, at 7pm. Ken Dilley, from Consett, will be guest speaker on Sunday, at 3pm.
COMMITTEE MEETING: The next meeting of the Ferryhill 2000 committee will be held tomorrow, at 6pm, in Ferryhill Town Hall.
ART EXHIBITION: The Man and His Mark, a tribute to County Durham artist Ben Johnson, is being staged at Bishop Auckland Town Hall until Saturday.
PARISH MAGAZINE: The Link, the parish magazine for Sedgefield, is joining with publications in Bishop Middleham and the Trimdons. The price of the magazine will stay at 40p.
SPRING FAIR: St Francis' Church, Horndale, Newton Aycliffe, is holding a spring fair on Saturday, from 11am to 1pm.
SPONSORED WALK: A ten-mile sponsored walk is being held by St James' Church, Darlington, on May 31. Sponsorship forms are available from the back of the church, in Albert Hill.
