FAMILIES took part in the centenary celebrations of a pier yesterday.
To celebrate the 100th anniversary of Roker Pier, in Sunderland, a day of free activities took place on the beach, promenade, and in nearby Roker Park.
Families flocked to enjoy fairground rides, a giant puppet show, music by the Sun Samba Band, and other attractions.
Because building work on the pier started during Queen Victoria's reign, the celebrations had a Victorian theme, and members of the Saltburn Victorian Society gave a flavour of life in the period.
