AN appeal was made last night to witnesses to a filling station robbery on Monday in which a cashier was assaulted.
The man was punched in the face in the incident at the Jet station, on the A181 at Wheatley Hill, east Durham, at 6.25pm.
Four men entered the premises and one approached the counter and asked for change for £1. When the till was opened, the man grabbed the money inside.
A struggle followed before the men fled with a quantity of cash.
Two men arrested in connection with the incident were released on bail, while another was being interviewed last night.
