A PEDESTRIAN was mown down by a driver twice but managed to survive, a court has heard.

Andrew Jobling, 29, drove a Vauxhall Cavalier into Ian Barron and then reversed over him, Newcastle Crown Court was told.

The jury heard how Mr Jobling had been aiming to hit Robert Moffat and had rammed Anthony Coleman's Astra off the road in Tantobie, near Stanley, County Durham, earlier that day.

Prosecutors say that after attacking Mr Barron in the car park of the Wishing Well pub, in Burnhope, Ian Oxley was hit by Mr Jobling and suffered a broken leg.

Christopher Knox, prosecuting, told the court: "Ian Barron was hit and run over. He described having the motor car up to his chest.

"Events became more alarming because having failed, more by luck than judgement, to do him substantial harm just knocking him over, the defendant then in fact drove back and reversed at the unfortunate Mr Barron and hit him a second time. The prosecution say quite clearly his intention was to kill Mr Barron."

Mr Jobling, of Holmeside Lane, Burnhope, denies dangerous driving, causing danger to road users by interfering with a vehicle, attempted murder, wounding with intent and attempting to cause grievous bodily harm and causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

He said he was in Northumberland at the time of the incidents, on November 10. The trial continues.
