A FORUM has been set up to increase companies' influence in east Durham.
The East Durham Business Forum (EDBF) was launched by Easington District Council's chief executive, Paul Wilding, and Tom Maxfield, owner of Seaham Hall and Oriental Spa, at Seaham Hall. Also speaking at the event was Sir Peter Vardy, of the Reg Vardy group.
The forum aims to give organisations a voice on issues facing the district that affect the local economy, and the chance to develop a mutual support network.
It is supported by the council and East Durham Development Agency, and every business in Easington district will be offered free membership.
The benefits of joining will include playing an active role in shaping the services offered by the support network, accessing a wide range of business support, advice and information; exchanging best practice with other businesses and having a platform to voice issues.
Members will be invited to attend events and meetings, and the forum will get involved in local issues such as education and crime.
Mr Maxfield, chairman of EDBF, said: "The business forum gives companies in east Durham the opportunity to have a voice."
