BRASS bands, choirs and aspiring young musicians from across the region will come together this weekend for a music festival.
The Consett Music Festival starts in Blackfyne Community School, Consett, on Friday.
It begins with a brass band contest judged by Eric Jennings, formerly principal trombone in the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.
The contest continues on Friday, May 16, with second weekend preliminary classes for a national junior competition.
The festival is in its 79th year and is regarded as a platform for talented youngsters.
Last year, two of the young festival winners went forward to compete at national level - Emily Barker is competing in the 2003 Emmanuel Trophy competition for piano and Mark Fiddaman in the National Junior Competition for English Song.
