FEARSOME beasts designed by children were turned into pavement works of art in a city square, on Monday.
The children, who all attend schools around York, have spent weeks creating pieces of Viking art, which feature dragons, snake and horse-like creatures.
Helped by members of the city's Jorvik team, the pupils who submitted the best beast designs turned their artwork into pavement drawings in St Mary's Square, outside the Jorvik centre.
About 150 young artists entered the competition. The ten winners were Patrick Dalton-Millikan, Rosa Ingleton, Jesse Haughton-Shaw, Megan Smith, Jake Feasey, Claire Bulmer, Gage McGuigan, Ellen Townend, Leyla Harmanda and Dominic Jackson.
Jorvik's Fearsome Craftsmen exhibition has also opened, which looks at the skills and artistry of the Viking age.
